Ranking every Clemson College Football Playoff Game of the four-team era

8th: 2019 National Championship: LSU 42, Clemson 25

Another game in New Orleans. I see a recurring theme here. The Superdome has not been kind to the Clemson Tigers.

Before this game, Clemson was on a 29-game winning streak. Trevor Lawrence and Justyn Ross had never known defeat in a Clemson uniform.

In hindsight, most people acknowledge the 2019 LSU offense as the best of all time. Joe Burrow, Justin Jefferson, and Ja’Marr Chase are stars in the NFL.

At the time, however, there wasn’t a ton of respect for the LSU defense. My mindset was similar to a lot of Clemson fans: the Tigers might not be able to stop LSU’s offense, but their defense couldn’t stop Clemson’s offense.

Things started well for Clemson, and it was a competitive game until Burrow caught fire in the second quarter. Even then, Clemson had opportunities to close the gap.

Nolan Turner had a shot at an interception that could have been a Pick-6. He just couldn’t quite hang on.

Tee Higgins, the master supreme at pushing off without getting called for it, got called for pushing off on a big touchdown pass.

It just seemed like nothing would quite go right for Clemson. It was only a 17-point victory for LSU, but it seemed worse.
