In-state 4-star Amare Adams selects Clemson Football over South Carolina
By John Chancey
Clemson Football scored another big win over their in-state rival South Carolina, and this time it was on the recruiting trail.
South Florence High School senior Amare Adams has announced his verbal commitment to Nick Eason and the Clemson Tigers.
Adams is a 4-star defensive line prospect in the 247Sports Composite. He is 6′-3.5″ and 290 pounds. He is ranked 111th nationally and is the No. 1 prospect in the state of South Carolina for the Class of 2025.
Adams played yesterday in the state championship game, and was wearing Clemson gloves.
Adams was long considered a Gamecock lean, but Eason and Dabo Swinney apparently were able to sway him towards their side in the recent past.
The Gamecocks have had success head to head with the Tigers recently. Three separate offensive line prospects from South Carolina all picked SC over Clemson.
Adams had this to say about Clemson:
"“I feel good about them. I’ve kind of known them for a long time because when I was a kid, I used to go to their camps. For right now, I have a good relationship with them. What sticks out to me is he rotates D-linemen on almost every play of almost every drive, so that’s one thing I like about it. You can get an opportunity to play.”"
Adams also had offers from Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, and Ohio State, among several others.
Clemson Football commit Amare Adams is very quick for a man his size
The first thing that stands out about Adams in his Hudl highlights is his speed. For a man playing at 290 pounds, he is lean and moves quickly. He is very good in pursuit and capable of moving laterally along the line of scrimmage to rush the quarterback in different ways.
He does not lack strength, however, and is efficient at collapsing the offensive line.
Clemson currently has five verbal commitments to the Class of 2025: quarterback Brian Hebert, running back Gideon Davidson, offensive tackle Easton Ware, tight end Logan Brooking, and wide receiver Juju Preston, who just committed Saturday evening. Adams is the first commitment from South Carolina and the first defensive commitment of the class.
