Clemson Football quarterback Hunter Helms is entering the portal

The Tigers learned yesterday that one member of their quarterback room will be moving on this offseason. Hunter Helms will be entering the portal.

Helms is a former walk-on who earned a scholarship during his time at Clemson and served as the second-string quarterback this season behind Cade Klubnik. Helms was 9 for 12 and 83 yards in 2023.

Another former Clemson walk-on, Billy Wiles, transferred after this past season and was named the starter for Southern Mississippi. Wiles had almost 2,000 yards of passing this season with the Eagles.

Helms likely can repeat Wiles’s success if he selects his next destination carefully.

Xavier Thomas will play in the bowl game for Clemson Football

While Jeremiah Trotter has announced that he will opt out of Clemson’s upcoming bowl game, Xavier Thomas has announced that he will play.

Thomas is a super senior who has exhausted his eligibility, so his exit to the NFL was already known, but it is great that Tiger fans will get to see him wear The Paw one more time.

Two Clemson Football players accept Senior Bowl invites

Two Clemson Football players – Tyler Davis and Ruke Orhorhoro – have announced that they have accepted an invitation to the Reese’s Senior Bowl.

Davis is a super senior and has exhausted his eligibility. Orhorhoro could return for his COVID season. As we saw from a couple of players last season, including Davis, a player can accept an invite to a postseason game and still return to his college program as long as he doesn’t play in the game.

While Orhorhoro might be leaning towards going pro, we won’t know that for certain until he announces his intentions, or he plays in the game. Once a player participates in a postseason game, they can’t return to college the following season.

Clemson Football alum Chase Brice is continuing his football career by re-signing with the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League.
