Duke’s Mayo Bowl: Wednesday, December 27th at 5:30 PM in Charlotte, North Carolina
If the Gator and Holiday were to choose Notre Dame and NC State, then the Duke’s Mayo Bowl becomes a likely spot.
From the perspective of logistics, Charlotte is an easy destination for Clemson fans. They routinely fill up Bank of America Stadium for ACC Championships.
By no fault of the bowl game, some Clemson fans have a negative connotation of this bowl game. While it is fun for a lot of fans, Tiger Nation often pokes fun at Shane Beamer for his mayo bath. Tiger fans don’t have fond memories of the last time the Tigers played in this game. They lost to South Florida, and Swinney has commented that he thought he might be fired after that.
I’m a local, so I’m almost definitely going to be at the Duke’s Mayo Bowl if Clemson plays there, but I don’t feel like a lot of fans want this game. As a destination, many fans have been here so many times for ACC Championships and the occasional neutral site game.
Charlotte just won’t get the fanbase very excited. If the bowl game figures that out, then they might look at North Carolina instead, though they were just there two seasons ago.
Likelihood: 20%
Possible opponents: We know it won’t be South Carolina. Texas A&M, Auburn, or Kentucky would be most likely here.
