3. Barrett Carter, junior

Despite Trotter leading the team in tackles, sack, and interceptions, Barrett Carter is actually at No. 66 on PFF’s big board, 11 spots ahead of Trotter. Carter, a fellow junior off-ball linebacker is a bit bigger at 6-foot-1 230 pounds compared to Trotter at 6-foot 230, but the two have a fairly similar athletic profile.

Carter has made 50 tackles with two sacks this year. He could be interested in returning to put up better tackle numbers with Trotter gone, but  the tandem will likely head for the NFL at the same time. His sideline-to-sideline speed is what separates him from his more productive teammate.

He’ll probably be a mid-round draft pick and after a disappointing season for the Clemson team, that should be enough to entice him to leave early.
