Dabo Swinney’s comments stir the pot with Clemson Football fans

Myth 3: Dabo Swinney isn’t driven to win championships anymore
Some fans have interpreted Swinney’s statements to mean that he no longer cares about winning or being successful. The idea is that Swinney’s attitude towards fans who are negative about the program taking a step back proves that he isn’t driven anymore. If he wanted to win, he would be as angry as those fans.
I don’t think this statement contains a lot of common sense.
Dabo Swinney is set for life. He doesn’t need another annual paycheck. He isn’t just coasting and cashing in. If he didn’t care anymore, he could walk away right now and never have to put up with another negative fan ever again.
I’m just an amateur writer, but I’ve had plenty enough negative things directed at me because someone didn’t like my opinion. I actually keep them on a Note on my iPhone. I get a kick out of reading them sometimes.
I know that if I truly didn’t enjoy writing, I could easily give every person who smarted off at me the finger and walk away without a care in the world. I don’t need to write for Rubbing The Rock. I do this because I enjoy it.
Swinney doesn’t need a paycheck. He could walk away right now and never work again in his life. He does this because he loves it. He cares, and as we’ve already noted, ‘All In’ means you can’t halfway do something.
I think the belief that Swinney doesn’t care about winning just because he expressed some frustration with negative fans is illogical.
I also know if I don’t do what is expected of me, FanSided will find someone else to be their site expert for Rubbing The Rock.
Gene Chizik won a national championship and got fired. Les Miles won a national championship and got fired. Ed Orgeron won a national championship and got fired.
I think Swinney knows that he can’t rest on his laurels. He has obviously built some freedom with the university but there is no such thing as unconditional love in major college football.
I legitimately believe that when the time comes that Dabo Swinney isn’t driven to win championships he will resign as the head coach at Clemson. I also don’t believe that time is coming soon.
Swinney is imperfect. Amateur writers are imperfect. Fans are imperfect too. Swinney imperfect when he applied his mindset to how some fans criticize, and some fans are imperfect by assuming Swinney doesn’t care anymore because he does things differently than they would in his place.
