Clemson Tigers News: Ronan Hanafin, First Down differential and Mike Williams
By John Chancey
Good morning Tiger fans! This is today’s Clemson Tigers News.
Clemson Football will burn a redshirt
During the call-in show on Monday night, head coach Dabo Swinney announced that freshman Ronan Hanafin will not redshirt this season as originally planned.
Hanafin has become a contributor on special teams. In high school, he was one of those uncommon players that played two ways at wide receiver and linebacker. Given that he is very capable of physical play, he is a logical guy to be on kick/punt coverages and returns. He is expected to play this weekend at Syracuse.
Clemson Football is one of the best in the nation achieving & preventing first downs
Clemson Football communications director Ross Taylor posted this bit of statistical information on X. He points out that Clemson and Penn State are the only two teams in the nation to rank in the Top 10 for first downs by the offense and the defense.
The 2023 has a higher differential on first downs than any other squad than any other in Clemson history.
Mike Williams tears ACL and will miss rest of NFL season
Clemson Football alum Mike Williams was injured during the Chargers’ game Sunday against the Vikings. It looked bad at the time, and the Chargers confirmed on Monday that Williams tore his ACL and would miss the remainder of the 2023 season.

Jason Priester from All Clemson Tigers said Eziomume was drastically underrated and he is being proven correct.
Clemson Baseball coach Erik Bakich picked up another commitment this week from local prospect Landon Fowler, a right-handed pitcher from Powdersville High School in Anderson County.
Fowler is part of the Class of 2025, so it will be some time before he enrolls at Clemson, but you can see a few of his highlights here thanks to TigerNet.
