This team does have potential

The mistakes by the Tigers have shaken the confidence in Clemson fans for Klubnik and the offense. While they were able to haul in a lot of passing yards, there wasn’t much evidence that the wide receivers are going to be difference-makers when they have to play Power Five defenses.

The preseason hopes that this team could return Clemson to the College Football Playoff are far in the rearview mirror at this point, if we are truly being objective.

That doesn’t mean this team doesn’t have potential. When they got into a rhythm and built some confidence, they played well. As we said earlier, success from the offense just gets this defense more charged up.

I don’t have confidence that the Tigers will be able to turn things around fast enough to defeat Florida State in Week 4. If they played them later in the season, I might still hold out hope.

I am beginning to have confidence that Clemson can give the Seminoles a game. It is a confidence I did not have following the Duke game, but also a confidence that will need to be reinforced next weekend against Florida Atlantic.

I don’t need to see Klubnik be Superman. I don’t need to see the offense slice and dice the Owls like they did the Bucs in the second half. I do need to see better decision-making and smart football.
