Iowa Hawkeyes

Iowa isn’t a program that probably jumps out to a lot of casual Clemson fans. In fact, if you’ve heard some of the lamentings about the possibility of Clemson joining the Big Ten one day, you know that many fans are not enthusiastic about playing at many of the locations in the conference.

The main reason I would love to see Clemson play Iowa is because of the traditions and culture of Iowa football. The best known of these is the Iowa Wave, which was founded relatively recently when the Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital was opened right next to their stadium. Between the first and second quarter of the game, the entire crowd waves to the young patients in the hospital.

The team also features one of the patients from the hospital as an honorary captain. Known as the Kid Captain, the patient accompanies the team onto the field and participates in pre-game activities.

There are others too. The Burrito Lift. The Swarm. Oh, and the Pink Visitors Bathroom. Fans wouldn’t get to see that but the Tiger players would.

Again, not a short trip but one that would surprise most Clemson fans. I hear the tailgating is good too.
