Colorado Buffaloes

I’m not putting Colorado on this list simply because Deion Sanders is the coach and they are one of the hottest properties in college football right this second. As I said at the beginning of the article, Clemson doesn’t have spots on their out-of-conference slate until the end of this decade, and who knows if Sanders will stick around that long if the Buffaloes continue to have success.

I’m putting Colorado on this list because they have a better history than a lot of younger fans realize. The Buffaloes were once annual contenders for national championships. They won a share of the Natty in 1990. The program fell on hard times, and I agree that they created a lot of their own problems, but I think it’s fun that there is some excitement in Boulder again.

Colorado held a one-game advantage on Clemson for several years thanks to a 27-21 win in the 1957 Orange Bowl. The Tigers evened the series in 2005 with a 19-10 victory in the Champ Sports Bowl.

Colorado has a tradition considered one of the best in college football when their giant live buffalo mascot, Ralphie, charges across the field in the pre-game festivities.
