Boston College looks like they are in trouble. The Eagles lost to a MAC team at home in overtime. Jeff Halfey will make someone a great defensive coordinator next season. That is a harsh thing to say, but unless he has something up his sleeve, it’s also fair and accurate. He’s a good coach but the challenge of keeping BC relevant is a beast.

Wake Forest and NC State left money on the table on Thursday. Both got victories but they didn’t play as well as they could have.

I thought Brennan Armstrong wasn’t bad for State, but the running backs didn’t produce as they should. We knew the receivers were green but they just couldn’t get separation at all.

Mitch Griffis didn’t look back as the starting quarterback for Wake, at least when he was standing upright. The problem is that the Deacon offensive line allowed him to be sacked by Elon our times, and the Phoenix had eight tackles for loss. That could be problematic for Wake.

It is going to be a long year for Virginia. They put up a fight early, but they just don’t have difference-makers or depth.

The Hokies exorcised some demons by beating Old Dominion, a task that hasn’t been easy over the years. Grant Wells got the job done.

Miami, Pitt, and Syracuse all got the wins they should have against the Week 1 opponents that they faced. So far, the ACC went 7-2 in out-of-conference games.
