Harris Sewell

  • Number: 55
  • Position: Offensive lineman
  • Height: 6’-4”
  • Weight: 315 pounds
  • High School: Permian High School
  • Hometown: Odessa, Texas
  • 247Sports Rating: 4-star
  • 247Sports Ranking: 202nd

Sewell is the offensive lineman that many thought could contribute right away. He was the highest-rated of the three 2023 commits in the 247Sports Composite, which takes ratings from all the major services.

I haven’t heard anyone say that their perspective on Sewell’s readiness has changed in fall camp. The ongoing question for the offensive line is just how many players will see significant field time in 2023.

We’ve heard for the past two seasons that the Tigers are 8-9 deep on players who should be part of the rotation, but then there is little rotation to speak of. The starters have logged the vast majority of snaps in 2021 and 2022.

Will the offensive line finally have a rotation? That is the answer that is most key to Sewell’s likely 2023 status. If they do have a rotation, then he stands a good chance of playing more than four games. If they keep the starters in most of the time, then Sewell might be redshirting.

I lean towards the former. Austin isn’t afraid to play true freshmen if they are deserving, and it sounds like Sewell is ready to go.
