Jay Haynes

  • Number: 26
  • Position: Running Back
  • Height: 5’-11”
  • Weight: 185 pounds
  • High School: Handley High School
  • Hometown: Roanoke, Alabama
  • 247Sports Rating: 3-star

Haynes shows a lot of promise at the running back position, but one thing stands out: 185 pounds is not very substantial for a typical college running back. Plenty of guys have played at that weight, but it isn’t ideal.

Like we’ve noted for several players on this list, there just isn’t a need to rush Haynes along right now. Will Shipley and Phil Mafah will get the majority of the carries, and Domonique Thomas and Keith Adams will get the rest.

2023 will be a good season for Haynes to grow and add weight to his frame.

Jarvis Green

  • Number: 21
  • Position: Running Back
  • Height: 5’-9”
  • Weight: 200 pounds
  • High School: Dutch Fork High School
  • Hometown: Irmo, South Carolina
  • 247Sports Rating: 3-star

Green is physically more ready to contribute than Haynes, but the same situation exists: at least four guys ahead of him. The word out of camp is that Green can contribute if needed, but it’s just questionable whether it is needed.

Like the 2023 tight end haul, the Tigers got a couple of good running backs who will contribute one day. That day just isn’t today.
