Ian Reed

  • Number: 54
  • Position: Offensive Lineman
  • Height: 6’-6”
  • Weight: 325 pounds
  • High School: Vandegrift High School
  • Hometown: Austin, Texas
  • 247Sports Rating: 4-star

Of Thomas Austin’s three offensive line recruits, I thought going into fall camp that Harris Sewell would likely avoid a redshirt, Zack Owens would likely redshirt and Reed was a mystery.

247Sports’s Gabe Brooks was of the opinion that Reed was physically ready to play right away.

"“Big, wide, heavy-bodied offensive lineman with good height. Appears to won ready-to-play size as a tackle or guard. Play strength corresponds to size. Often overwhelms smaller defenders at the point of attack with mass and motor. Consistent worker who finishes blocks uninterrupted engaging effort.”"

We haven’t heard a lot about Reed in fall camp, but the little we have heard suggests that he probably isn’t ready to play right now. It doesn’t sound physical, but more about his style and acclimating to the college level. Reed has a bright future, but it sounds like he is one of those offensive linemen that needs a little time to develop. A year in Power Hour certainly can’t hurt anything, and he might assert himself in 2024 when a few players ahead of him move on.
