Cade Klubnik

No position gets as much publicity as the quarterback, and Klubnik has the best opportunity of anyone to make a case for how special he can be for this team.

There are a lot of people nationally who already know Klubnik’s name. Many were calling for him to get the starting job right out of the gate.

He did get playing time, but he was uneven. He would have great outings followed by below-average outings.

At this point, most people think he is a good quarterback, but they aren’t convinced he is a great quarterback. There have been too many mistakes so far.

That hasn’t kept pundits and prognosticators from predicting this will be the season he breaks out. They see his potential, and now he has Garrett Riley as his quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator.

Klubnik seems tailor-made for Riley’s offense. If he can master it, he could take a big jump this season.

He will need to assimilate it sooner than later. A road trip to Duke is a tough opening matchup, and just a few weeks later the Tigers will play in the game of the year in the Atlantic Coast Conference against the Florida State Seminoles. The following week they have the mother of all trap games against the Syracuse Orange.

We’ll find out early if Klubnik has taken that jump.
