Clemson Football: Will Shipley named to Doak Walker Award preseason watchlist

The respect from around the nation continues for Will Shipley of Clemson Football. He has been added to another watchlist.

Shipley has been named to the preseason watchlist for the Doak Walker Award, given annually to the best running back in college football.

Shipley has now been added to four watchlists: the Doak Walker, the Maxwell, the Wuerffel, and the Paul Hornung.

The award is named after Doak Walker, a running back who played for SMU and the Detroit Lions. He won the Heisman Trophy in 1948. It was created in 1990.

Bijan Robinson from Texas won the award in 2022. No Clemson player has ever won the award. Other notable winners include Derrick Henry from Alabama, Reggie Bush from USC, LaDanian Tomlinson from TCU, and Ricky Williams from Texas.

Seventy-three other players join Shipley on the watchlist, including Pat Garwo from Boston College, Trey Benson from Florida State, Dontae Smith from Georgia Tech, Jawhar Jordan from Louisville, Rodney Hammond Jr. from Pittsburgh,  LeQuint Allen from Syracuse, Bhayshul Tuten from Virginia Tech, and Justice Ellison from Wake Forest representing the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Will Shipley represents Clemson Football on the Doak Walker watchlist alongside three others from the Carolinas

Nate Noel from Appalachian State State and Rahjai Harris from East Carolina are the only other representatives from the Carolinas.

Other notable names include Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards from Michigan, TreVeyon Henderson and Miyan Williams from Ohio State, Chez Mellusi from Wisconsin, Jaylen Wright from Tennessee, and Quinshon Judkins from Ole Miss.

Cade Klubnik (Davey O’Brien), Jeremiah Trotter (Bronko Nagurski), Barrett Carter (Bronko Nagurski), Ruke Orhorhoro (Outland), Tyler Davis (Outland & Bronko Nagurski), Will Putnam (Rimington), Jake Briningstool (John Mackey) and Dabo Swinney (Dodd) have also been named to preseason watchlists.
