Clemson Tigers News: Preseason ranking, Trevor Lawrence and JoJo Hyatt
By John Chancey
The Clemson Tigers are the highest-ranked ACC team in a preseason poll
The College Football News has released their preseason rankings for the 2023 season. While many rankings have Clemson Tigers rivals Florida State as the highest ranked program in the Atlantic Coast Conference, CFN has other ideas.
CFN has Clemson Football ranked 7th nationally, following Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan, Alabama, USC and Penn State.
In contrast, Florida State is ranked 14th by CFN. The next highest ranked ACC teams is Miami at 20th. South Carolina is ranked 24th.
CFN’s preseason ranking does differ from their prediction of the first AP Poll, which will be release later in August. CFN predicts that Florida State will be ranked 7th by the AP, with Clemson at 11th.
CFN believes Clemson will be better, but acknowledges Florida State is likely to be the highest rated ACC team in the preseason AP Poll. The Tigers will face the Seminoles in Death Valley in Week 4.
Clemson alum Trevor Lawrence breaks into The NFL Top 100
The NFL has begun releasing its Top 100 players list for 2023, and Clemson Tigers alum Trevor Lawrence debuts at No. 96.
The Top 100 is voted on by players themselves, and is thus a reflection of what their peers think of them. Numbers 91-100 have been released thus far. Other notable names in this range include Devonta Smith, Dalvin Cook and Terry McLaurin.
Lawrence passed for 4,113 yards in 2022 as he led the Jaguars to first-place in the AFC South and the Divisional Round of the playoffs before falling to eventual Super Bowl champion the Kansas City Chiefs. He was named to the Pro Bowl.
Lawrence and his teammates begin their 2023 season on September 10th at the Indianapolis Colts.
