Corian Gipson commits to Clemson Football
By John Chancey
Clemson Football has received a commitment from a high-profile athlete from Texas.
Defensive back Corian Gipson has announced his verbal commitment to cornerbacks coach Mike Reed and the Tigers. He is a 4-star in the 247Sports Composite ranking. He is the 67th-ranked player in the class overall and the seventh-best cornerback. He measures 6’-0” and 170 pounds.
Gipson is going to be a senior this season at Lancaster High School in Lancaster, Texas. He also runs track at Lancaster, also nicknamed the Tigers.
Gipson had narrowed his finalists to Clemson, Texas, and Ohio State. He had offers from forty different programs, including Alabama, Tennessee, Florida State, LSU, Michigan, and Texas A&M.
One of the first things I notice when I watch Gipson’s Hudl highlights is his closing speed, which you might expect from a track athlete. Sometimes he plays the opponent tight at the line of scrimmage. Other times he gives them a cushion.
Either way, when the ball arrives he closes the distance and makes a play. Sometimes you might even think he is baiting the quarterback to throw the ball in his direction.
Gipson lines up at cornerback in most of his junior highlights but there are examples where he plays safety in his sophomore highlights.
Corian Gipson made official visits to Clemson Football and Texas this summer
Gipson attended Clemson’s official visit weekend at the beginning of June, and soon after he received multiple Crystal Balls from 247Sports’s staff for the Tigers. Gipson decided to take all his official visits, including one to the Longhorns.
Since his visit to Austin, there had been no new projections until Friday, when 247Sports Director of Football Recruiting Steve Wiltfong entered a Crystal Ball for Clemson, which was a strong indicator of Gipson’s decision.
This likely closes out Clemson’s Class of 2024 for defensive backfield players. Gipson is joined by Ricardo Jones, Noah Dixon, Tavoy Feagin, and Ashton Hampton as backfield commitments in this class. Clemson still has a few open offers to a linebacker and offensive linemen, but the next big target is Eddrick Houston.
Houston is a 5-star defensive lineman from Buford, Georgia. He announces his commitment on August 22nd. He is selecting between Clemson, Ohio State, Georgia, and Alabama. The Crystal Balls on 247Sports favor Ohio State, but keep your fingers crossed that Clemson can convince Houston to attend the All-In Cookout this coming weekend.
