Freshman defensive tackle Peter Woods

It was easy to see that Clemson would need an infusion of talent on the defensive line following the 2022 season. While the departures weren’t as deep as originally feared, linemen Myles Murphy, Brian Bresee, and KJ Henry all elected to try their hand in the NFL.

Several freshmen will attempt to step into that void right away, but the one who has garnered the most attention and hype is defensive tackle Peter Woods.

Woods was a 5-star prospect in the 247Sports Composite. He is from Alabaster, Alabama, and his commitment was considered a big off-the-field victory against Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide.

Woods then further dazzled Tiger fans with fantastic performances in post-season high school all-star games. 247 lists him at 6’-3” and 270 pounds. Some consider his size to make him something of a tweener between end and tackle, but early returns indicate that won’t be a problem for Woods this season.

The coaching staff has given glowing reviews of Woods thus far, and of all the freshmen, he looks to be the one they won’t be able to keep off the field. Despite that, there is always a learning curve, and the comparisons to Clemson great Christian Wilkins will set the bar high right away.
