Clemson softball cruises past Furman 10-0 with power display
Clemson softball continued their hitting torrent Tuesday evening by crushing Furman 10-0.
Valerie Cagle moved to 3-0 on the young season, pitching 4 shutout innings, striking out 7 without a base on balls and giving up 3 hits.
She was followed by 2 shutout innings from Millie Thompson and 1 from Regan Spencer to complete the shutout by the Tigers hurlers.
Once again the Tiger bats reached double figures in hits (12) and once again, several left the yard.
JoJo Hyatt got the scoring started in the second with a run-scoring single that plated Aby Vieira for the games first run.
Maddie Moore led off the third with the Tigers first home run of the game, a shot to right field.
The Tigers added another run in the frame on a Vieira single to make it 3-0 after three innings.
Alia Logoleo started off the 5th with a blast to left center making it 4-0 Clemson, before the floodgates opened in the 6th and 7th innings where the Tigers combined for 6 runs, including a two-run Valerie Cagle homer that made the final 10-0.
The Tigers offensive prowess continues to be on display as they collected double-digit hits for the sixth time in six games on the season.
The score allowed Clemson to empty their bench and in total 21 players saw the field in some way, shape or form.
Clemson softball faces two Big Ten teams this weekend at McWhorter Stadium
Up next for the Tigers are four Big Ten teams. They host Northwestern and Ohio State for two games each in the ACC-Big Ten challenge.
Clemson plays the Wildcats Friday, followed by a doubleheader Saturday with Northwestern in the early game and the Buckeyes in the second game, before wrapping up the weekend against Ohio State on Sunday.
Those four games will be Clemson’s first home games of the season.
The Tigers will be off Monday, before hosting the Georgia Bulldogs on Tuesday.
