Clemson Men’s Basketball looks to bounce back against Florida State
By John Chancey
Clemson Men’s Basketball is facing the adversity of a three-game losing streak at the exact time that they want to be hitting their stride for a post-season run.
It may seem like nothing is going their way right now, but the schedule is going to allow them to turn things around.
Clemson will host the Florida State Seminoles in Littlejohn Coliseum Wednesday at 7:00 PM Eastern. The game will be available for streaming on ACC Network Extra (ACCNX).
The Tigers are led in scoring (15.6 per game) and rebounds (9.6 per game) by senior Hunter Tyson. Chase Hunter leads the team in assists with 4.1 per game and is also contributing 14.1 points per game. PJ Hall is averaging 14.4 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.
Florida State has only won one game out of their last five: a road victory over Louisville on 2/4. They most recently lost in Tallahassee to Pittsburgh, a game in which Seminole guard Jalen Warley scored 23 points. Sophomore guard Matthew Cleveland leads FSU in points (14 per game) and rebounds (7.8 per game). Junior guard Caleb Mills leads the team in assists with 3.6 per game.
Clemson Men’s Basketball is a 9.5 point favorite over the Seminoles, with an over/under of 146.0 points.
Clemson is a 9.5-point favorite with a total of 146.0, implying a 77.75-68.25 Clemson win.
John Chancey (17-8, 10-15 ATS):
This is gut-check time. If Clemson can’t beat a very down Seminoles squad in Littlejohn, then things have completely collapsed for Coach Brad Brownell in what was looking like the best campaign in his 14-year Clemson career. As good as Hunter Tyson has been at times this season, he needs help. I am disappointed at how un-physical Hall has been for this team over the past three weeks. He is the Tigers’ big man. He needs to start being big. There is still time. This team can get its groove back but it must start now.
Marty Coleman (17-8, 10-15 ATS):
Call me crazy, but I wouldn’t make Clemson a 9.5 favorite against any ACC team at the moment. Yes, playing in Littlejohn will give them a lift and the Tigers are plenty capable.
On the flip side they needed some serious voodoo to pull out a 82-81 win in Tallahassee a couple of weeks ago and that’s when they were playing decent.
Littlejohn makes the difference, but the spread is too large.
The game is scheduled to be televised on ESPN+ at 7 p.m.
