Clemson softball punishes Georgia State, 11-2

Clemson softball moved to 2-0 on the young season, walloping the Georgia State Panthers 11-2 on Friday, behind a program-record 19 hits.

For the second straight game the Tigers started quickly, scoring 3 in the first and 1 in the second and ended up scoring in every inning except the third.

McKenzie Clark led off the game with a home run for Clemson and two batters later Caroline Jacobsen hit a two-run shot.

In all, 11 Tigers tallied at least one hit and Clemson hit 4 home runs on the day.

Clark went 4-for-4 with a home run and two RBI, Alia Logoleo was 3-for-4 with two RBI, and Caroline Jacobsen hit 2 home runs for the Tigers, who reached double figures for the second consecutive game.

Valarie Cagle (1-0) started on the mound for the Tigers and after giving up 2 unearned runs on her own error in the first, shut down Georgia State over her final four frames.

Cagle finished giving up 3 hits, striking out 3 and getting 12 groundouts in her 15 total outs recorded on the mound.

Sophomore Brooke McCubbin pitched the final two frames for Clemson, giving up a pair of hits and striking out one.

The Tigers have a pair of games scheduled for Saturday, starting with the Kansas City Roos at 10 a.m. with their second matchup to be determined based on game outcomes and will be played at either 3 p.m. or 5:30 p.m.

Clemson is also scheduled to play a game in the tournament on Sunday at a time and against an opponent to be determined.

After 5 games in Miami Clemson softball will make their way back to the upstate

After the 5 games in Miami the Tigers return to the upstate and visit Furman on Tuesday at 5 p.m. before hosting Northwestern and Ohio State for two games each next Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Clemson plays Northwestern Friday and Saturday at 3 p.m. both days, then host Ohio State at 5:30 p.m. Saturday and 12:30 p.m. Sunday.
