Clemson Football: Star-studded list of defenders on campus
As we’ve stated before Saturday is huge for Clemson football and the Class of 2024 recruiting cycle.
Clemson is hosting a bevy of players for its Elite Junior Day, but I couldn’t help but notice the top-level defenders that will be on hand.
Tiger fans believe getting players on campus makes a difference and there’s little doubt Tiger recruiting suffered for various reasons during the pandemic, so this is an opportunity for the Tigers to get back in the game and the top echelon of recruiting.
Just how much talent will be on hand this weekend?
Looking at the four highest-ranked defenders scheduled to be on campus gives us a perspective of the talent level that’ll be on hand.
Mike Matthews is a 6’2, 180-pound safety out of Lilburn, Georgia and is currently the No. 3 overall player per 247sports.
Right behind Matthews at No. 4 overall is another safety, 6’1, 185-pound KJ Bolden out of Buford, Georgia. You may recall Bolden saying Clemson will likely be involved in his recruiting till the end.
At No. 12 is linebacker Sammy Brown, another Georgia native, out of Jefferson.
Cornerback Charles Lester III out of Sarasota, Florida is No. 22 on the 247sports.com ratings and he’ll also be in Tiger Town this weekend.
That’s just four of the 20+ players scheduled to be a part of the festivities this weekend.
Let’s not forget that No. 72 overall Hevin Brown-Shuler, the No. 10 defensive tackle, will also be on hand.
On the offensive side, Walker White is a quarterback out of Arkansas, that’s currently rated No. 143 overall and David Eziomume, currently the Tigers only over at running back in the 2024 cycle.
Clemson football will host 4 of the top 22 ranked defensive players in the Class of 2024
On balance though, with 4 of the top 22 ranked defenders on campus, this weekend is an opportunity to make mark on on Wes Goodwin’s unit for years to come.
It may be January, but this weekend could go a long way to determining how successful the Tigers Class of 2024 ends up being.
