Clemson Tigers News: Big recruiting weekend, softball accolades, hoops at FSU

We Clemson football fans love to talk about the shifting of the odds in the Tigers favor if they can get a recruit on campus.

Well, for Clemson this is the weekend for the 2024 cycle as Elite Junior Day is upon us on Saturday.

Most of the players that hold 2024 Clemson offers will be on hand and it’s time for the coaching staff to make up some ground where necessary and cement relationships in other cases.

As we’ve detailed previously, being No. 10 or 11 in the recruiting rankings on year is not necessarily the end of the world.

If it happens year after year and your competition is consistently higher, that takes a toll eventually and you see it on the field as Clemson has in the last two seasons.

Without a generational quarterback and receivers, it’s tough to make up for shortcomings at other positions.

All that to say, Clemson needs to make a move in the rankings this year or risk falling farther behind and this weekend is an important part of that process.

Softball players earn preseason accolades

Several Clemson softball players were named pre-season All-ACC, including Valerie Cagle, who was honored for the third time.

McKenzie Clark earned her second such honor, while Alia Logoleo was named for the first time.

The Tigers kick off the schedule in less than two weeks on February 9 at the FIU Tournament in Miami against the host team.

Clemson Men’s Basketball in Tallahassee

Brad Brownell’s team takes on Florida State in Tallahassee Saturday and I expect the Tigers to be favored by somewhere around 4 to 6 points when the odds come out, but it could be a tricky game for Clemson on the road.

The computers hate the Tigers and they can ill afford to lose to a team sitting on the wrong side of No. 200 in the NET Rankings (202 as of this writing).  We’ll have a preview, analysis and picks on Saturday.

Clemson Baseball begins practice

I think I just heard a composite ping in the air as it’s that time of year – Clemson baseball practice starts today and there’ll be 3 intrasquad games this weekend.

There’s a renewed sense of energy and eagerness around Erik Bakich’s first Clemson team and a sense of “newness”, though that’s difficult for me to describe.
