In what may turn out to be a historic season for Clemson Men’s Basketball, Tiger fans are in a weird place.

They hate computers.

No, they’re not Luddites, they just hate the computers that spit out the NET Rankings and the ones owned by Ken Pomeroy.

The Tigers dispatched Georgia Tech 72-51 Tuesday night in Littlejohn with little trouble, jumping out to a 12-0 lead and cruising despite playing without either guard that started the season.

P.J. Hall went for 17 points and 7 boards, Brevin Galloway scored 15, while Hunter Tyson and Chauncey Wiggins totaled 12 each for Clemson.

Tyson led the Tigers with 8 rebounds as Clemson dominated the boards to the tune of 40-33.

It seems like the Tigers have a different face come out of nowhere to lead the team, or at least provide a boost, in the absence of Chase Hunter and Alex Hemenway and last night that was Brevin Galloway early, and Chauncey Wiggins by nights end.

Galloway had 7 of the Tigers first 10 points, all in 1 minute and 27 seconds of game time and finished 5 of 10 from the floor, including 3 of 6 from three-point range.

Wiggins scored his 12 points in 18 minutes on the court, flashing silky smooth moves and a deft touch from three-point range, in going 5 for 7 from the field, including 2 of 3 from deep.

But alas, it’s 2023 and we can’t get away from the computers and the NET Rankings.  I would gander that most human beings outside of the Columbia metro area see what we see, in general: A good basketball team that lost a couple of games early to bad teams, but has grown since December and certainly, barring a collapse, are a tournament team and maybe a dangerous one at that.

Despite a 17-4 record and having won 9 of 10 ACC games, the computers aren’t buying Clemson Men’s Basketball

Those computers are waiting for the inevitable collapse, perhaps as soon as Saturday on the road against No. 200 (NET) Florida State, or next Tuesday against No. 198 Boston College.

For now, those smug computers have Clemson at No. 56 in the NET Rankings and Mr. Pomeroy gauges them at No. 58.

Usually, it’s the other way around, the computers believe in some rando team and the humans call them overrated.

For the Tigers and their fans, it’s the opposite.

Fans are buying in and the computers are calling the Tigers frauds.

What a weird place to be as a Clemson fan.
