Mitchell Mayes or Bryn Tucker

Mayes and Tucker were both 4-star prospects in the 247Sports Composite for the Class of 2020. That offensive line class was heralded as a big step up in talent compared to what the Tigers had been recruiting. Unfortunately, the only member to start for the Tigers from that group has been Walker Parks. The fourth member, Paul Tchio, washed out quickly and transferred.

Mayes saw notable action in 2022. He was one of the first players off the bench for Clemson. When Marcus Tate was injured towards the end of the season, Mayes was the main guy who filled the void. He saw 405 snaps last season, far more that any other reserve lineman.

Tucker, on the other hand, saw a reduction in his snaps last season over 2021.

Both men have two seasons of eligibility remaining. Going into their fourth years in the program, this would seem like now or never for both guys.

If they want this opportunity, they will need to compete and hold off their younger teammates this spring. If they see those younger players pass them, both are names that could end up in the portal. They are nearing the point where if they aren’t going to see the field soon with the Tigers, their best bets for starter minutes might be elsewhere.
