Clemson Football: Brandon Streeter dismissed as offensive coordinator
By John Chancey
Clemson football just made its biggest change of this off-season.
Brandon Streeter has been dismissed as the offensive coordinator. This news broke Thursday afternoon.
Streeter was in his first season calling plays for the Clemson offense. The former Clemson quarterback had been on staff since 2015, originally as the quarterbacks coach. He also took on passing game coordinator duties.
Streeter took over for Tony Elliot, who left to become the head coach of the Virginia Cavaliers after the 2021 season.
Streeter has been under fire from Clemson fans who have been critical of his playcalling decisions in critical situations. Most notably, there have been times when the offense has steered away from the running game, which had found success with running backs Will Shipley and Phil Mafah.
There is no word at this point in time whether offensive coordinator will be the only staff change, or if other changes could be in store. Further changes could depend on who is hired as the new offensive coordinator.
It does not look like we will have to wait very long to find out who that will be.
Per Tiger Illustrated, a decision on the new offensive coordinator has already been made. We do not have a name yet.
Clemson Football has already made a decision on Streeter’s replacement
Coach Dabo Swinney‘s most recent staff changes following the 2021 season were mostly promotions from within his current staff. The lone exception was new defensive line coach Nick Eason, who was previously at Auburn.
Many fans have expressed a desire for Clemson to hire from outside the current coaches. There is a feeling that the Clemson office has become stale over the years, and a new perspective could bring fresh energy.
Following Clemson‘s loss to Tennessee in the Orange Bowl, Swinney did not give any indications that he was thinking about making any changes. If anything, he expressed support for his coaches. I can’t help but wonder if a name-brand offensive mind, which recently became available, might have changed the direction that Clemson has decided to go for the 2023 season and beyond
