Clemson Tigers News: Commitment announcement, basketball teams in action and it’s cold in Buffalo
By John Chancey
The biggest Clemson Tigers news today involves the announcement from one of the last uncommitted football targets.
Khalil Barnes of North Oconee High School in Bogart, Georgia will announce his decision today at 11:30 AM. His finalists are Clemson, Notre Dame, and Oklahoma.
All three 247 Crystal Balls are pointed at Clemson, including one by Steve Wiltfong, who is usually correct about his commitment predictions.
Barnes is listed as an athlete by 247Sports. Clemson is recruiting him as a safety. He would be the third member of the class to join Coach Mickey Conn’s unit next season.
Clemson Football also got a commitment from a preferred walk-on this week. Running back Peyton Streko from West Forsyth High School in Cummings, Georgia announced that he will be joining the Tigers.
Former Clemson quarterback Billy Wiles has announced where he will play next season.
Basketball will take the lead in Clemson Tigers news this weekend
Clemson Men’s Basketball returns to the hardcourt in another neutral site game Saturday against the Richmond Spiders. The game will be at Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina at 7:00 PM.
This will be the Tigers’ last non-conference opponent in the regular season. Clemson was victorious in their lone ACC game thus far, a 77-57 win over Wake Forest.
Clemson Women’s basketball opens their ACC schedule with a big game against the NC State Wolfpack in Raleigh on Sunday at 6:00 PM. The Wolfpack is ranked 8th in the nation.
While this is a big test for the Tigers, it is just the start of a difficult conference slate for 2022-23. NC State is currently the fourth-best ACC team in the rankings – Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, and North Carolina are all ranked in the Top 10 ahead of the Pack.
In lighter news, Clemson’s own Shaq Lawson is making some headlines on social media for his choice of attire during the Bills outdoor practice.
Sometimes people forget that just because the team plays in Buffalo that it doesn’t mean that their players didn’t grow up down south. That said, I don’t think I’ve seen anything like this since pee wee football when parents got a bit carried away with dressing their kids for the weather.
