It feels like Clemson football is in a precarious place as they prepare for an ACC Championship Game against the North Carolina Tar Heels Saturday in Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.

It’s weird, but it somehow feels worse than last season when the Tigers didn’t even make the ACC Championship Game and were awaiting their bowl assignment this time last season.

Obviously, part of that is losing to South Carolina for the first time in 8 years and part of it is seeing any hope of the College Football Playoff slip away for the second consecutive season.

The other part of it is having to face a quarterback the quality of Drake Maye a week after watching the defensive backs trying to chase receivers down from behind, while Clemson was unable to complete more than a handful of forward passes, very few of those past the line of scrimmage.

North Carolina hasn’t set the world on fire over the last couple of weeks either, losing to Georgia Tech and North Carolina State’s fourth-string quarterback. Yikes.

As I pointed out earlier in the week I suggested that perhaps the best bet was North Carolina on the money line at +240.

I don’t see Clemson blowing out the Tar Heels and with Clemson favored by 7.5 points, the hook looms large in my mind, too large in fact to take a side either way.

Clemson football finds itself in a precarious spot in the ACC Championship Game

The Tigers are in danger of losing for the second game in a row and the third time in their last five games, an unprecedented rate in recent Clemson history.

Best Bet: North Carolina +240

Often times your first intuition is the best and while this bet may not come to fruition I think it offers the best value for those that than can stomach it.

ESPN gives Clemson a 77.7% chance to win the game, so it’s not for the faint of heart, but offers plenty of value on a team with a prolific offense that’s a smidge more than a touchdown underdog against a team turning the ball over and struggling to score.

I see a close Clemson win or an outright win for North Carolina and therefore see the best bet as taking the Tar Heels on the money line.
