Clemson Football: Miami QB out against Tigers
Clemson football will not be facing Miami quarterback Tyler Van Dyke Saturday if a tweet from ESPN reporter Pete Thamel is correct.
Thamel tweeted that Van Dyke is “expected” to be out today and the Hurricanes will turn to freshman Jaccuri Brown who threw for three touchdowns last week in a 35-14 win over Georgia Tech.
Van Dyke had completed 63.7% of his 245 passes for 1,761 yards, with 10 touchdowns and 4 interceptions on the season, but so much more was expected after a freshman season in which he threw for just short of 3,000 yards and 25 touchdowns.
Brown is 19 of 29 (65.5%) for 173 yards with 3 touchdowns and an interception on the season and was 14 of 19 for 136 yards and 3 touchdowns last week against the Yellow Jackets.
Brown has also rushed for 205 yards on 42 carries on the season.
A true freshman, Brown was a four-star recruit out of Lowndes High in Valdosta, Georgia, ranked as the 17th-ranked quarterback and 263rd-ranked recruit overall.
Brown’s profile shows offers from a host of SEC schools, including Georgia, Tennesee and LSU, and many other big-name schools, so despite him being outside of the top 250 he was pretty highly recruited.
Van Dyke is reportedly being held back by a shoulder injury which has limited him in several games this season.
Brown is a different quarterback and as his rushing totals show, a threat on the ground that Van Dyke was not, so the Tigers will have to adjust their defensive plan, if in fact, Brown gets the call.
Clemson football faces a Miami team that has disappointed in 2022
Clemson is a 19 point favorite over the Hurricanes, who have disappointed this season, going only 5-5 to date.
The drama around the Miami program never seems to end, from crypto billionaires to players parents using social media to voice their displeasure.
Earlier in the week head coach Mario Cristobal created a stir when he intimated that parents could come pick up their kids if they weren’t happy with his assistant coaches.
The game kicks off at 3:30 EST on ESPN.
