Clemson Football: Lawrence leads Jags in rout of Chargers
Clemson football alumnus Trevor Lawrence led the Jacksonville Jaguars to their second win in as many weeks, this time a route of the Los Angeles Chargers on the road by a score of 38-10.
Lawrence completed 28 of 39 passes for 262 yards and 3 touchdowns with no interceptions.
Lawrence’s Clemson teammate, Travis Etienne, rushed for 45 yards on 13 carries and caught 3 pass for 30 yards for Jacksonville.
There has been much criticism of Lawrence with some pundits saying he was already a bust, despite the team around him having very little talent in 2021.
The Jaguars made several off season moves in order to improve the team around Lawrence, were buoyed by the return of Etienne who missed his entire rookie season with a Lisfranc injury and hired Head Coach Doug Pederson in the offseason.
The Jags were in control from the start, jumping out to a 13-0 lead before the Chargers were able to get on the board.
San Diego tightened a 16-7 game at halftime to 16-10, before Lawrence led two touchdown drives and completed a two point conversion and a 31-10 lead early in the fourth quarter.
The Jaguars move to 2-1 on the season and are surprisingly in first place in the AFC South, after winning just three of seventeen games last season.
Lawrence threw for 10,098 yards and 90 touchdowns at Clemson, leading the Tigers to the 2018 National Championship in a romp over Alabama by a score of 44-16.
In his inaugural season in Jacksonville, Lawrence completed 59.6% of his passes for 3,641 yards and 12 touchdowns, while throwing 17 interceptions. He also ran for 334 yards in his rookie campaign.
