Clemson Football: 2024 is the focus on the recruiting trail
We haven’t updated much on the Clemson football recruiting lately, because there hasn’t been much going on, at least not on the surface.
Of course, recruiting is always happening, one way or another, to one degree or another. After all, it’s the lifeblood of any college football program.
Clemson currently sites eighth in the 247sports.com composite rankings and have 20 commitments for the 2023 cycle, 2 five stars, 15 four stars and 3 three stars, with the Miami Hurricanes nipping at their heels (with three less commitments).
Multiple current commitments were on hand for the Furman game last weekend, including DL Peter Woods, DE A.J. Hoffler, WR Ronan Hanafin, LB Dee Crayton, S Rob Billings and CB Branden Strozier.
It’s true my nose hasn’t been to the recruiting grindstone lately, but I guess there are those questioning Peter Woods’ commitment to Clemson. Our friend JP Priester says Woods is solid to the Tigers “as we sit here today”.
It’s recruiting. These are young men under immense pressure. Anything can happen, but it looks good right now.
While there wasn’t much news about 2023 prospects, there were several 2024 top level defenders on hand last weekend, headlined by linebacker Sammy Brown from Jefferson, Georgia, who’s currently the 9th overall ranked recruit in the 2024 class.
While Clemson football looks to finish off the class of 2023 with another key player or two, the most recent visitors are from the class of 2024
Brown has been all over the country and is being recruited by the biggest schools as you can imagine.
Two others on hand were two additional 2024 Georgia prospects, defensive end Eddrick Houston and defensive tackle Hevin Brown-Shuler.
Houston is listed as a 5 star and the 18th ranked overall player in the class of 2024, while Brown-Shuler is a 4 star, but still a top 50 player (48) currently.
There’s still much angst over a running back for the current class and Mr. Priester has indicated the staff will take one, it’s just a matter of who and when. To that end we’ve heard that C.J. Spiller has recently scouted 3 star prospect Jamarion Wilcox of Douglasville, Georgia.
