Clemson Football: ACC Power Rankings – After Week 2
By Casey Cregan
4. Clemson Tigers – (2-0) – Four of eight quarters, Clemson has looked dominant on offense. 4 of 8 quarters, the defense has looked as advertised. My bias, and my hope, and the equity built up by this coaching staff has Clemson at #4 in the conference power rankings. DJ has looked like a good quarterback at times. More than he did a season ago. The line needs to get a bit better with run blocking, however the pass pro has been really good the majority of the time. The defense needs to adjust to the plethora of screens they are likely to see moving forward. The talent is there, just have to put it all together.
3. Miami Hurricanes – (2-0) – Mario Cristobal’s team is averaging 50 points per game. The defense has been good and is flying to the ball. Granted, the opponents have been Southern Miss and Bethune-Cookman, however, this team has talent and now a serviceable coach to lead them. QB Tyler Van Dyke is a POTY candidate early in the year, and maybe this is the year that “THE U IS BACK.”
2. Wake Forest Demon Deacons – (2-0) – Sam Hartman is back, the defense is good, and Dave Clawson is a really good head coach. AT Perry leads the stable of wide receivers for the Deacons, and, along with Clemson, this may be the most consistent program in the conference. With their signal caller back at the helm, Wake is a really good football team.
1. NC State Wolfpack – (2-0) – Yes, they eeked one out versus East Carolina in the first game of the season. A hostile environment and a decent opening week opponent. The talent from Devin Leary, the running of Demi Sumo-Karngbaye and Jordan Houston. Wide receivers are solid led by Thayer Thomas. And it’s a very good defense. Wins versus ECU and Charleston Southern are nothing to brag about. A test this week versus Texas Tech will gauge just if NC State can hold onto this position moving forward.
