9. Duke Blue Devils – (2-0) – The surprise team of the year so far in the conference.  New Head Coach Mike Elko has brought a winning mentality to the proud (basketball) school and they have rattled off two nice wins (vs. Northwestern; Temple) to start the season.  It remains to be seen if Duke will be a contender in the Coastal division for the first time since Daniel Jones was at QB.  We shall see.

8. Pittsburgh Panthers – (1-1) – Losing starting QB Kedon Slovis in week 2 versus Tennessee puts Pitt here.  What was supposed to be a dominating defense sputtered in their opener versus West Virginia (a win) and didn’t look much better in week 2 versus Tennessee.  Some coaching turnover leads to some questions as well, and we shall see how Nick Patti does taking the signal caller position.  (word is he may be hurt as well)

7. Florida State Seminoles – (2-0) – Jordan Travis may be the leader in the clubhouse for league Player of the Year.  Yes, they beat Duquesne, but had a nice win against an SEC foe LSU in week 2.  Mike Norvell is in need of a nice year for his status as Head Coach to remain in tact.  The talent has never been a question at FSU, and this may be a really good year for them.  Slotting them at 7 is not a knock at all, I just believe the league is plenty deep this season.

6. North Carolina Tar Heels – (3-0) – Drake Maye is the likely leader for ACC Freshman of the Year as the QB of the Tar Heels.  A quick 3-0 start and Maye is putting up tremendous numbers.  He’s had to as the defense may be the worst in the conference, which has me utterly confused.  There are “stars” all over that side of the ball, but Defensive Coordinator Gene Chizik has not put together a good game plan yet.  In spite of themselves, the Tar Heels are still unblemished in 3 games so far.

5. Syracuse Orange – (2-0) – Probably the owners of the most surprising result of the early season.  A 31-7 throttling of Louisville in the season opener.  A follow-up victory versus UConn have Dino Babers team getting some pub in the early part of the year.  Running Back Sean Tucker is a load, and may be the most dynamic back in the ACC.
