The top ranked Clemson Men’s Soccer team opened ACC play by taking down Boston College 2-1 Saturday evening in Newton, Massachusetts, in what was a very physical match.
The teams went back and fourth in the first half with each having scoring opportunities they failed to convert, before Clemson’s Tim Strobeck put pressure on the Boston College goal keeper who hit grass and fell while trying to kick the ball away from his goal allowing Strobeck to capitalize and give the Tigers a 1-0 advantage.
The second half was slower moving, but Boston College’s CJ Williams was given a red card and The Tigers didn’t take long to capitalize as Ousmane Sylla found Adam Lundegard for the score.
It was Lundegard’s first goal as a Tiger and put Clemson up 2-0.
The Eagles didn’t give up though and they ended up scoring just a couple of minutes later, the first team to score on Clemson since Indiana in the season opener, covering almost 400 minutes of play.
There was a lot of pushing and shoving in the match, some of it seemingly instigated by Boston College’s Stefan Sigurdarson as the cameras found him pushing Clemson players in the back multiple times away from play.
The Tigers move to 5-0 on the season and 1-0 in the ACC and have outscored their opponents 12-3 on the season and will almost certainly retain their number one ranking.
