Clemson Football: Vizzina leads game-winning drive in final minute
Clemson football quarterback commitment Chris Vizzina led Briarwood Christian to a victory over Spain Park Friday with a 68 yard drive for the winning score.
Vizzina, ranked 20th overall in the class of 2023 by 247sports.com, is the highest ranked commitment to date in Clemson’s eighth ranked class and is listed as the number six quarterback overall in next years class.
With Vizzina and true freshman Cade Klubnik the Tigers appear to be in great shape with younger quarterbacks for the foreseeable future.
The 6’4, 207 pound Vizzina is projected as a day 2-3 NFL draft pick with the frame to add weight at the collegiate level.
He’s also seen as an above average passer with the ability to progress in college, that also provides a threat with his legs, but a quarterback that will need time to develop.
That seems like the perfect scenario at Clemson next year, where D.J. Uiagalelei will be in his fourth year and Klubnik in his second.
That’s speculation on my end of course, with the advent of the transfer portal, things can change quickly in any group, but perhaps more quickly at quarterback, where guys want to play and play in a hurry.
Despite reports of their demise, the Tigers are still recruiting well, including 3 top 250 offensive linemen in the 2023 cycle to protect the quarterback, along with a pair of 4-star top 300 wide receivers.

The biggest question around the 2023 Clemson team is the quarterback situation, with many feeling we’ll see Klubnik sooner rather than later in a more than casual role.
Personally, I’m taking a cautiously optimistic, wait and see approach, as there were plenty of issues to go around at every position on the offense, without blaming one individual for the collapse of a once powerful unit.
There are three winnable games up front for confidence to be regained and fans to be won over.
Still, come September 5, we need to see more from D.J. Uiagalelei or there will be calls for a change.
