Former Clemson football cornerback Mackensie Alexander is expected to sign with the Miami Dolphins after a Monday workout.

Alexander was a second round pick of the Minnesota Vikings in 2016, going 54th overall after Clemson fell to Alabama in the 2015 National Championship game in which he aggravated a previous injury and did not play in the second half.

Alexander played little his first two years in Minnesota, but he started six games in 2018 and then  starting four in 2019.

Alexander spent one year in Cincinnati before returning to the Vikings last season where he played in 16 games, totaling 51 tackles and 5 passes defensed, but had his worst coverage year as an NFL player and allowed five touchdown passes.

Alexander is expected to be used for depth with the Dolphins or he could also step into a starting role, if needed.

Alexander was a five star recruit at Clemson, number thirty overall and the fourth rated cornerback in the class of 2013, per 247sports.com.

The only corners ranked above him in that class were Vernon Hargreaves, III, Jalen Ramsey and Kendall Fuller.

At Clemson, Alexander redshirted in 2013 after suffering a groin injury before starting all 13 games in 2014 and playing 766 snaps.

As Clemson made a run to the National title in 2015, Alexander had a great season, not allowing a single touchdown pass, but was injured in the semi-final against Oklahoma.

He tried to return in the National Championship game vs. Alabama, but aggravated the injury in the first half and was unable to return.

Alexander finished his Clemson career having played in only 23 games over two seasons, making 44 total tackles and without an interception which was a knock on him during the NFL scouting process.

Alexander does have three NFL interceptions.

While the terms of his latest contract has not been updated, three previous contracts total around $9,500,000 for Alexander, including his rookie deal which paid him over $4,300,000 for 2016 to 2019.
