In this edition of Throwback Thursday John Chancey looks at former quarterback and current Clemson football offensive coordinator Brandon Streeter.

Brandon Streeter – Quarterback 1996-99

  • RTR 200 Ranking: 116
  • 3,504 passing yards
  • 56.6% completion
  • 17 touchdowns

Brandon Streeter is getting ready to begin his 15th season in Clemson between being a player and a coach.

Streeter played high school football for Gettysburg Area High School in Pennsylvania. As the starting quarterback, he led the Warriors to two district championship games. Brandon’s father, Barry, was a long-time football coach at Gettysburg College, an NCAA Division III program.

Streeter served as a backup quarterback in his first two seasons at Clemson for coach Tommy West. In 1998, Streeter took the reins as the starter. The Tigers finished the season 3-8 and West was dismissed at the end of the year.

New head coach Tommy Bowden didn’t hesitate to overhaul the offense, bringing offensive coordinator Rich Rodriguez with him from Tulane, where the pair had just finished an undefeated season with the Green Wave. Streeter began the season as the starter and led the team in completions. As the season progressed, Streeter shared time with sophomore Woody Dantzler, who was a star in the making.

The Tigers finished 6-6 in 1998, playing one of the most difficult schedules in the country. They were the only team to face all three programs that went undefeated that season: Florida State, Virginia Tech & Marshall. The Seminoles and the Hokies played for the national championship that season. Clemson qualified for the Peach Bowl that year.

Streeter finished his career with just over 3,500 yards passing for his career, which is still the 13th best mark in Clemson history.

Former Clemson football quarterback Brandon Streeter has been tasked with getting the Tigers offense back in gear after tough 2021 season

Following the end of his college career, Streeter played one season for the Carolina Cobras, an Arena Football League that played in Raleigh, North Carolina at the time. He then accepted his first coaching opportunity at Charleston Southern before returning to Clemson as a graduate assistant.

From 2006 to 2014, Streeter served as the quarterbacks coach and/or the offensive coordinator at Liberty and Richmond before returning to Clemson again in 2015 as the quarterbacks coach. During his tenure he has worked directly with Deshaun Watson and Trevor Lawrence, two of the most successful players in Clemson history. He also served as the recruiting coordinator from 2015-19.

Following Tony Elliott’s departure in 2021, Streeter was named the new offensive coordinator for the Tigers. Head coach Dabo Swinney described it as an “easy decision” to promote Streeter, stating:

"“Brandon Streeter has been with me since December of ’14 when we played in the bowl game against Oklahoma there in Orlando. He coached Deshaun [Watson] for two years. He recruited Trevor. He coached him all three years. He recruited DJ [Uiagalelei] and recruited [Cade] Klubnik. He deserves it. He has turned down multiple coordinator jobs in and out of our league, the SEC, NFL. He has had multiple opportunities, but he has been our passing game coordinator for a few years now. With Tony [Elliott] getting the job at Virginia, again, he deserved it and he has earned it.”"

Next. Klubnik, Pride named as top 50 CFB newcomers. dark
