Say whatever you want about ESPN. Call them the ‘Four-letter Network’ if you like. They have contributed some wonderful advancements in the world of sports coverage, and one of the biggest is College Gameday, which has been very important to Clemson football over the years.
It has become as much a part of our college football Saturdays as the games themselves. College Gameday starts at 9AM Eastern and the first games start at noon. If you can’t tune in for the entire broadcast, make sure you at least turn it on in time for the picks.
There is one time a fan absolutely may not miss Gameday, and that is when they will be at your team’s game. It’s amazing when your team gets to host Gameday on their campus, but just as much fun to hear the opposing crowd boo when Rece Davis and company talk about your team instead of theirs.
ESPN has announced that Gameday will start with a special Thursday edition before the renewal of the Backyard Brawl when West Virginia visits Pittsburgh before producing their Saturday show in Columbus, Ohio for Notre Dame at Ohio State. There has been no mention of a special edition on Labor Day Monday for Clemson’s opener against Georgia Tech, so we know there is one game they won’t attend.
It isn’t uncommon for a single team to be featured multiple times in one season, but it is unusual for a school to be able to host Gameday on their campus more than once. Understanding this, I will go ahead and tell you: I think Gameday will go to a single Clemson game this season, and I think it will be at a home game.
That’s right, I’m adding this one to my bold predictions. College Gameday will set up on Bowman Field this season.
While I don’t think multiple appearances will happen, I could be wrong. Teams & games we think will be amazing in August can suddenly become irrelevant by the end of September. Other teams surprise and are more impactful than we expected.
Here are the five Clemson games that are the most likely to host College Gameday.
