A notable trend in college football recruiting is that many high school players want to complete their recruitments before their senior football seasons begin and the same goes for many Clemson football targets. If those players haven’t announced their intended college destination already, they probably will during the month of August.

Clemson’s Class of 2023 currently stands at eighteen verbal commitments. The perception of many insiders is that the Tigers have filled their quota at a lot of positions, but there are a few that they are still actively recruiting.

The most likely announcement that could impact the Tigers’ class will be coming Monday morning. Cornerback Shelton Lewis will be announcing at 9:30 AM.

Lewis is a rising senior at Stockbridge High School in Georgia. He is a 3-star recruit per the 247 Composite. He currently has two Crystal Ball’s projecting him to select Clemson. If Lewis verbally commits to the Tigers, that will likely close out their cornerback group for this cycle.

As the season approaches Clemson football recruiting has a few remaining positions that need to be addressed

There are two other prospects that Clemson has been recruiting that have been linked strongly to Clemson by insiders. Athlete Ronan Hanafin is a 4-star prospect from Buckingham Browne & Nichols School in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Clemson views him as a wide receiver. He is also strongly considering Notre Dame. Insiders have framed Hanafin as wishing to decide before his high school season starts. If he elects to make that decision public, we can expect him to announce sometime in August.

Clemson has also been recruiting Kayden McDonald, a 4-star defensive lineman from North Gwinnett High School in Suwanee, Georgia. McDonald does not appear to be targeting a decision in August, but plans can change. McDonald currently has one Crystal Ball for Clemson.

I think it is starting to look very positive that Clemson will have 20 members in their Class of 2023 at some point during the month of August. If they do not reach that point this month, I don’t think it will take too long into the season to get there.

I also expect that Clemson will continue to recruit during the season. All signs indicate that they aren’t done at defensive end, and they have yet to add a running back to this class. Additionally, in-season contrition due to players entering the transfer portal could influence the Tigers to pursue prospects to fill in those spots. I think it is still Clemson’s preference to find high school prospects to fill their scholarships rather than transfers from other schools.
