Tiger Tuesday features a Clemson athlete from the past that significantly impacted their program.  This week Clemson football is highlighted with former defensive back Bashaud Breeland.

Bashaud Breeland – Cornerback, 2010-13

  • RTR 200 Ranking: 40
  • 159 tackles
  • 8.5 tackles for loss
  • 3 sacks
  • 6 interceptions
  • 2 quarterback pressures
  • 20 pass breakups
  • 2 caused fumbles

Bashaud Breeland played for Clemson during the years Coach Dabo Swinney was building the program. He wasn’t part of a Tiger National Championship team, but he is one of those Clemson alums who can proudly display a Super Bowl ring.

Breeland was a multi-sport athlete at Allendale-Fairfax High School in Fairfax, South Carolina.  He played football, basketball and ran track. On the football team, he played on both sides of the ball, as a quarterback and a defensive back. He was an All-State and All-Region player in football, and he won two state titles in track.

Breeland was a three star recruit, rated No. 452 overall, the thirty-fifth best safety and fifteenth best player in South Carolina for the class of 2010. He redshirted in 2010, but contributed quickly as a redshirt freshman, starting seven times in 2011. He started at least five games every season he played for the Tigers and would have played more than five in 2012 if it wasn’t for injuries.

He was named to the All-ACC squad in 2013, leading the team with 13 pass breakups. He capped off his career with a forced fumble against Ohio State in the Orange Bowl.

Breeland was drafted by Washington in the 4th round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He spent time with Washington and Green Bay before signing with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2019. He won a championship with Kansas City in Super Bowl LIV. He spent the past season with Minnesota and Arizona.

We don’t know yet if Breeland will continue his career in the NFL this upcoming season. It isn’t unusual for veterans to find opportunities as the preseason continues and teams must fill needs due to injuries. At the age of 30, it’s possible his pro career isn’t over yet.
