It’s been a while for Clemson football, or at least it seems that way.  On Sunday, three star safety Robert Billings from Milton High in Alpharetta, Georgia selected the Tigers from a group of suitors.

Billings makes 18 commitments for the Tigers as we start August, with fall camp starting in a few days.

What led to Billings choosing Clemson over Florida State, Michigan, Ole Miss and others?

"“My relationship with coach (Mickey) Conn. Ever since they offered me, they preached wanting me in Clemson to play free safety,” Billings said. “Their recruiting never fell off. Other schools, the contact fell off. But Clemson was really consistent with recruiting. They got me on an official visit and I enjoyed my time with the staff and built a relationship with everyone. At the end of the day, they won over my commitment.“Coach Conn is very invested in my skill set and what I have to offer.”"

Clemson football remains sixth in the latest 2023 recruiting standings as we head into August

The Tigers currently reside 6th in the 2023 Recruit Football Team Standings as calculated by 247sports.com.

There was another interesting development on Sunday, as Rusty Mansell of Dawgs247.com projected four star defensive lineman Kayden McDonald to Clemson.

Mansell has been correct on 87% of his 2023 projections.

McDonald, from North Gwinnett High in Suwanee, Georgia is ranked 290th overall, the 42nd best defensive lineman and 27th best player in Georgia.

In addition to Clemson, McDonald has offers from Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State and Oklahoma among other big name schools.

According to Jason Priester of AllClemson.com the Tigers could take one more defensive lineman (and a defensive end) in the 2023 cycle.
