It is no secret that the dominance of the Clemson football wide receiver corps has been a big reason to the Tiger’s success in the past decade.
NFL talent like Sammy Watkins, Nuk Hopkins, Mike Williams, Tee Higgins and many more have worn the orange and white and played a role in huge wins and National Championships.
With that history and pedigree to live up to, 2021 was a disappointing year for the group. Pressure was put on the offensive line and quarterback play, but wide receivers also had a very disappointing year. It didn’t help that the group was decimated with injuries also. Justyn Ross season was cut short do to a foot injury and EJ Williams and Joseph Ngata could not consistently stay on the field.
With all of that said Tiger fans should have plenty of excitement for the group in 2022. Ngata has shown when he is healthy, he can be that number 1 go-to target. EJ Williams showed a plethora of great signs in the 2020 season especially with that circus one-handed catch against Notre Dame in the ACC championship game. There are others such as Beaux and Decari Collins, who ended up being starters as true freshman at the end of last season.
Brannon Spector coming back could be a big boost in the slot.
Clemson football wide receiver Adam Randall won’t be ready for the opener, but he’s a name to keep an eye on as the season progresses
Another name Tiger fans can look out for is true freshman Adam Randall who quickly burst onto the scene when he arrived on campus. Unfortunately he suffered a knee injury in the spring, but Coach Dabo Swinney is hopeful he will be ready to go at some point during this upcoming season. Swinney says his game is very similar to Justyn Ross but Randall is even bigger.
We also shouldn’t forget about two sport star Will Taylor coming back also. Taylor showed he can be electric with the ball in his hands if you give him space.
If DJ Uiagalelei can throw the ball to his potential, if the line can give him time, and if the wide receivers can stay healthy, look for a massive bounce back year from the Tiger’s wide receiver corps.
