It’s that time of year when the season win totals and early spreads begin coming out on the first week of college football games.

Recently, WynnBet released some of those numbers and one included in this early drop was the spread for the Clemson vs. Georgia Tech opener on Labor Day night, Monday, September 5.

I gave my early thoughts on this game last week, along with a predicted score and since I haven’t received any additional information since, I’m sticking with that.

For what it’s worth, Clemson fans are rather confident at this point, despite the many questions surrounding the 2022 Tigers.

In short, I don’t expect 73-7 of two years ago, but I also don’t expect 14-8 from last year either.

"However, I really knew the Tigers were in trouble on offense two weeks later with the putrid output (284 total yards) against a bad Georgia Tech team that would go on to post a 3-9 record. This is a team that the Tigers had devastated in the two previous seasons, by scores of 73-7 and 52-14, yet they barely squeaked out a 6 point win at home. Yikes.I don’t expect that to happen this season, but I don’t expect 73-7 either, which means it’s more than likely it’s somewhere in between.  I’m not particularly far out on a limb with that brilliant analysis am I?"

Giving 18.5 points in the opener is a tricky proposition for a team that struggled to score in 2021

The 18.5 is a tricky number for a Clemson team that struggled to score last season and as one of the commenters on the tweet above indicated, I, too, am a “want to see it on the field” kind of guy.

That said, this team has something to prove and I believe that begins against an outmanned Yellow Jackets team to wrap up the first week of college football in 2022.

Then again, it’s early July and a lot can change between now and then, so stay tuned for our predictions once the season begins.

Next. Way too early score predictions for first six games. dark

The spreads and future bets are beginning to be posted and that means college football isn’t far off.
