Clemson football: The Dabo coaching tree is growing new branches
By John Baker
Tony Elliott
Coaching Record: 0-0
Season Expectations: This will be Tony Elliott’s first season ever as a Head Coach. Virginia looks to flip the script on the Bronco Mendenhall era, and move forward. The Cavaliers open the season at home against in state foe, Richmond. The following Saturday they travel to play Illinois on the road. UVA also travels to Syracuse, Duke, Georgia Tech, and Virginia Tech. UVA hosts Louisville, Miami(FL), UNC, Pitt, Coastal Carolina, and Old Dominion. Brennan Armstrong announced shortly after the last season concluded that he would be returning to College for one more season. This is huge for Tony Elliott in his first season and could help in key games this season. The tough in division games are mostly at home this season. UVA could be a 8 win team this season, maybe 9. They have Miami(FL), UNC, and Pitt at home consecutive. While the expectations may not be high at the moment for UVA, they may be able to come out and surprise a lot of people this season.
Season Record (Prediction): 8-4
Expectations for the future: While after this season the divisions will no longer exist, UVA could eventually contend for the ACC Championship at some point(don’t limit your dreams). It will take work however, because Clemson will be in the Title game almost 95% of the time, you also have to take into account Wake Forest, NC State, Pitt, UNC, and Miami. Another words it’s not going to be easy, but it can be done. The elimination of the divisions however will not help UVA in that sense, and it will take more time for that reason. There is no doubt UVA will be a factor and a contender in the ACC under Tony Elliott, but it will take time.
Likelihood of being the next Head coach at Clemson: 6. There is most likely a fifty-fifty chance that Elliott would come be the next coach at Clemson. You have to factor in that UVA is indeed a power 5 school, and depending on how much he does in Charlottesville would most likely determine his interest in the Clemson job. It may also be said that other names would be thrown into the mix as well and that may affect his chances of coming back to Clemson. The future is bright for Tony Elliott!
