Clemson football: Counting down the toughest games of 2022 – Part 1 of 3
By Casey Cregan
#9 – Syracuse Orange – 10/22 – Clemson, SC
This one pains me a little bit because I really like Dino Babers. I thought he was turning around the program with a few great years there in Western New York. Things have not materialized for Babers nor the Orange during the last few seasons and gone are the days where I believe they can pick off the Tigers again.
Garret Shrader is a quarterback that has all of the tools to be a…good running back or wide receiver (as he was at Mississippi State in 2020). He has yet to prove he can throw it on anyone but is a very capable runner. Sean Tucker is pleased with his quarterback (IYKYK) and is a beast at running back, arguably the best runner in the ACC.
Syracuse also returns the majority of their back two levels of defense, but major attrition at the line of scrimmage will be a problem.
Saving Babers’ job will be the focus of this team in 2022, and as I stated earlier, I do not believe he will have the “Joes” to pull off a stunner versus the Tigers this season. You never know, if there is an opening on Dabo’s staff after this year.
Syracuse Orange, the 9th toughest game of the season for Clemson.
Coming next Friday, #’s 8 through 5 toughest games of the 2022 season.
