Clemson football: Offensive line recruiting – Tigers not done by a long shot

Clemson’s big June is almost done, but recruiting never ends.

Clemson football has been on a roll in the recruiting world since the big June recruiting weekend held earlier this month.  While all positions are obviously important in the big scheme of things, some stand out as more important than others, quarterback being one.

The Tigers got their man at signal caller, but another position that jumps off the page as a need every year is on the offensive line.

To that end, Clemson has a pledge from Ian Reed of Vandergrift High School in Austin, Texas, but is no where near done at the position as they look to come away with three or four offensive linemen in this class.

Harris Sewell is a 6’4, 290 pound 4 star out of Odessa Permian High School in Odessa, Texas that has been projected to the Tigers recently.

"Again, no commitment date has been set as of yet. However, recent intel suggests an announcement could be coming in the near future, and All Clemson is now ready to project.Projection (8-8 2023, 18-19 All-Time): Clemson"

Odessa Permian is the OG as far as Friday Night Lights go, as this is the school that the book was written about (if anyone remembers the book) that led to the movie and all the other stuff that came along with it.

While offensive linemen are notoriously difficult to project, the fact that Sewell has offers Texas A&M, Texas and Ohio State in addition to Clemson, among others says all you need to know.

Another thing that says a lot is that Sewell is projected to Clemson, by at least one source, over not only his home state teams, but also a veritable who’s who of college football: Michigan, Notre Dame, LSU, Miami, Oklahoma and Southern Cal, for example.

This is big boy recruiting and the Tigers are in good shape.  It’s not done yet, but Clemson has positioned themselves well.

The Tigers also look to be in good shape with Zechariah Owens, a four star offensive tackle out of Georgia, who announces on the fourth of July.

Owens’ 247 profile includes this tasty nugget:

"Among the top O-line prospects in the 2023 recruiting cycle with potential to become an impact multi-year starter at the high-major level. Very high-floor prospect with the physical traits that could lead to a ceiling in the top half of the NFL Draft."

If Clemson is able to get Sewell and Owens on board they’re likely three fourths of the way done on the offensive line recruiting trail with the hope of finishing later this summer.
