One of the characteristics that have defined Coach Swinney’s staff at Clemson in the last decade has been its stability and continuity. The number of changes to the staff have been fewer than you see at most schools, and when they do happen, Dabo tends to fill the openings with Clemson alums or people that were already part of the staff.

We were reminded this past offseason that stability in college football is something of a luxury, as both Tony Elliott and Brent Venables accepted head coaching positions at Virginia and Oklahoma respectively. Both coordinator positions were filled with people already on staff (Brandon Streeter from the coaching staff and Wes Goodwin from the support staff), but then defensive line coach Todd Bates elected to join Venables at OU. Coach Swinney elected to reach outside Clemson to bring in Clemson alum Nick Eason from Auburn.

Dabo has restocked his support staff, so there are several candidates there that he could consider if he has openings in the future. While it is accepted that Coach Swinney would likely prefer to promote from within, there will be times that he needs to hire from outside to fill some positions, as he did with Eason.

Since it is inevitable that Clemson will one day hire from outside the current coaching staff, here are the candidates most likely to coach for Clemson in the future.
