Clemson football dips into the Texas high school ranks for the second time this week.
Noble Johnson has announced that he is verbally committing to Clemson’s Class of 2023.
Johnson is a rising senior wide receiver at Rockwall High School in Rockwall, Texas, just outside of Dallas. He is 6’-2”, 205 lbs and is rated as four stars by the 247 Composite.
Johnson becomes the second receiver in the class, joining Nathaniel ‘Ray-Ray’ Joseph out of Miami, Florida.
Clemson recruiting has been busy lately. They have hosted multiple camps over the past two weeks and welcomed 31 different prospects for official visits last weekend.
Four of them had already announced their verbal commitments to Clemson: Joseph, quarterback Christopher Vizzina, defensive end David Ojiegbe and cornerback Branden Strozier.
Three of those prospects – tight end Olsen Patt Henry, offensive lineman Ian Reed and safety/athlete Kylen Webb – have committed in the past week. Camp visitor Avieon Terrell, a cornerback and brother of former Tiger A.J. Terrell, also announced that he will attend Clemson, making it a total of four commits for the week prior to Johnson’s announcement.
Several other prospects – linebackers Dee Crayton & Jamal Anderson, defensive tackle Vic Burley, tight end Markus Dixon and offensive lineman Zechariah Owens, safeties Robert Billings and Ahmad Brown, and cornerback Damari Brown – have been projected to Clemson by at least one of the major recruiting services. Anderson announces his commitment Monday, and Dixon announces Tuesday. Owens will announce on July 4th.
If all those projections hold, that would make eleven recruits from the official visit weekend that ended up committing to the Tigers (Burley was not able to attend the official visit event). Several more recruits have modified their visit schedules following their official to Clemson, indicating their experience with Coach Swinney and his staff was impactful at the very least.
Tigers still reaping the benefits of last weekend’s shindig in Clemson
Since Clemson’s big visit weekend was somewhat unique, it is difficult to gauge exactly what would make it a success at this point. Right now, 11 of the 27 attendees that were uncommitted are now Clemson commitments or projections, roughly 41%, with several others potentially coming down the road. If Clemson can get that to 50%, they would have to consider the official weekend to be a big success. With the first four commits, Terrell and the projection for Burley, Clemson would have 17 total commitments, well on their way to a full class.
