Clemson football: Another decommitment on the horizon?
After losing Reid Mikeska, Clemson could be looking at another decommitment.
Just over a week ago, we posited on speculation that Clemson football commit Nathaniel Joseph was trending towards Miami despite his pledge to Clemson.
It now seems to be all but a done deal that Clemson’s first commit in the 2023 class will flip to Miami.
"“This one will be one to monitor– I don’t know if all the way until signing day because I think something could happen sooner rather than later. From what I’ve heard, Nathaniel Joseph’s family is all about Miami and the Hurricanes.”"
Joseph is scheduled to be on Clemson’s campus on June 3 for the big recruiting weekend, so if nothing happens before then it’ll be interesting to see if that visit still holds.
Has Joseph been flouting the “No visits once committed” rule?
More interesting to me is that Joseph has apparently been testing Dabo’s no visits once your committed policy, apparently without repercussions to this point.
"“I think there have been some ‘secret’ visits from Joseph that have taken place recently, and I think Clemson knows that have been some secret visits that have taken place. Because Clemson has a policy where you’re either in or you’re not. You’re not wishy-washy."
I’m not naive enough to think this doesn’t happen, but the fact that it appears to be an “open secret” is a different matter in my mind.
Miami apparently wants Joseph in a bad way and what is no secret is that the Hurricanes can now freely offer inducements that make Miami more attractive than in the past, shall we say.
The final piece of the puzzle? Apparently Joseph’s family is all in on the Hurricanes, too.
"From what I’ve heard, Nathaniel Joseph’s family is all about Miami and the Hurricanes.”"
Being from Miami, this makes sense to some degree, but one wonders why now it’s different than when Joseph committed to Clemson back in September.
The obvious thing is the coaching change and that shouldn’t be downplayed, but neither should be the role of NIL money and what that means to young men and their families.
Whether it’s Clemson or Miami, Joseph has to make the decision that’s best for him.
